eries on ways we can eat to satisfy our appetite as well as build stronger bodies. I am talking about literally eating to live. Eating to help our bodies function the way they were created to.
This week, we will discuss the many ways calcium fortifies our bodies. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. It is necessary for bones, muscles, blood vessels, hormones and enzymes to function properly.
99% of the body’s calcium is stored in your bones and teeth. Calcium is best known for it’s role in maintaining the strength and density of bones. When blood calcium levels drop too low, it is “borrowed” from the bones.
Foods that are high in calcium include milk, yogurt and cheese.
Smoothies are a great way to get your calcium. Blend fresh or frozen fruits with milk, soy milk, rice milk or yogurt. You can even add juices for extra vitamins and minerals. Adding a scoop of protein powder really gives your body what it needs to build muscle and stay satisfied until your next meal.
