BEAT THE HEAT WITH THESE COOL TIPS

When the temperature soars and the humidity rises, it is time to take precautions to avoid heat related dangers like heat stroke and heat exhaustion.  Everyone is at risk when the temperature rises above 90 degrees, but the elderly and the very young are at the most risk.

Here are some tips to keep your cool in this summer heat.  If at all possible, stay inside with the air conditioner on.  If you must work outside, take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water.  Wear lightweight, light colored clothing.  This will reflect the heat away from your body.  Wear a hat or use an umbrella to protect your head.  Eat small meals and drink water continuously, even if you do not feel thirsty.  Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body.  Slow down and avoid strenuous activity.  If you must work outside, do it during the morning in the coolest part of the day.

Seek medical help if you experience the following symptoms, elevated body temperature, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomitting, cool and clammy skin or hot and dry skin.
